That too is true, but if you only posted to one server you
might stop it from being seen for days.

Almost all of us post to only one server. My point is that the
servers all share the posts, and the message I posted a short
while ago, has already been copied to many other servers all
around the world. If I delete that message, it gets deleted only
from my local server, and remains on other servers, where it will
be seen by many other people, just as quickly as if I had not
deleted it.
