Thank you Ken. I used an update query using the formula
and then changed the field to a number (from text) in
design view. I wish Access had a description on CDbl and
Nz like Excel provides for functions(though not on these,
doh!) so I can figure out why it works.
 
ACCESS does have info on these functions in the Help file.

Easiest way to get this info is to type Nz in the Immediate Window, and
then, while the cursor is on the Nz, press F1 key. Same for CDbl to get info
about it in Help.

Also, I almost missed your post; best to keep your replies in the same
thread so that they can be seen more easily.
