Hello all

Just wanted to say “Thank you!†for the help/advice/education you’ve provided over the past few weeks…. (accessing command prompts, disabling system restore, deleting files, safebooting, etc. etc. etc...). You all got me started on the road to fixing the problems on my PC – I can now access the Internet and my Windows Explorer!!! Yeeee Hawwww!!! I don’t feel like I’ve been taken hostage by my PC anymoreâ€

I discovered I did have Spyware, Adware, and some Trojan Horses after I downloaded Spy Sweeper…. (if there’s any other software that would be good for me to download, I’d be grateful for suggestions…

I know it may not seem like much and that those tasks are probably very simple to folks like you, but to a person who doesn’t know how to do those things, it can be mind-boggling and scary…. I appreciate everyone’s time in responding to my requestsâ€

Also, thank you to Microsoft for having this help and support site

You're welcome, David :-)
I'm glad you have learned a lot
You should have ad-aware, spybot, an antivirus and a firewall, besides
downloading regularly from Windows Update.
Ad-aware
http://www.lavasoftusa.com/support/download/

Spybot S&D
http://www.safer-networking.org/index.php?lang=en&page=download

Also you should download Hijack This to take a snapshot of your system
when it is working OK, choose to add the entries to the ignore list.

Later if a problem comes up, you will know that what turns up in
Hijack this wasn't there before and is probably malware, although you
should always check first anyway, on Google or here.

Another useful program is BHODemon, it tells you which browser helper
objects you have, and you can disable them if you want.

Good luck

Roger,

Thanks again! I've downloaded Spy Sweeper and will add the others in your suggestion... I've got NISP 2004 package, which has the firewall and NAV... I bought a router yesterday and am installing it tonight. I appreciate your time and suggestions. Thanks!

Hi David.

You're very welcome :-)
You will have a good supply of software/hardware to help you against
the myriad malware around.
