thanks a lot;
but i also have a question:the wince can read the word files,and the xpe may
not do that?
How the xpe can read these files? May have an idea to do?

Hi Zebing,

You can use viewers, but you can't use word processors.

This may not be true in his case. It really depends on the device usage.

Since there are many technical&legal issues to run MS Office on XPe, try 3rd party solutions like SoftMaker software or
AbiSource/AbiWord, e.g. (http://www.abisource.com). It is good alternative and technically easy to archive (done that a long while
ago).

But you will have to consult with Legal on use of the app anyway.

zebing,

Eventually you may find out that Windows XPe has *much* more legal restrictions than, say, Windows CE.
Mostly because XPe is based on XP Pro binaries (and thus is probably more competitive to MS other OSs).

I am not promoting CE here but have to admit sometimes (if not often) it is a better choice. Especially considering the fact that CE
software community is growing pretty fast.

thanks very much;
i only take a sample,as we know,wo may use to read word(excel) files;
other way,may i ask a question: have the support excel(or ppt) files the 3th
software?
and may i install visual studio 6.0 in xpe,with the vs6.0 develop xpe app
software?

Yes, you technically can but why do you need that? Why do you want to
"develop XPe app software" on XPe?

Anyway, search and read:

Hi KM,

So can't I install MS viewer(word,excel,powerpoint) on XPe??
Event viewer for free released from Microsoft??
But some application like POS may use it.
And STB user may view document edited by office on website.
They don't install viewer,so they can't read it.
If it's true,should they use XP pro instead of XPe??

Malvem,

Regarding what you can or cannot install on XPe you may better contact your legal or XPe distributor you purchased the run-time
licenses from.
My guess would be that word/excel/pp viewers are good to be installed on XPe runtime. But who knows the legal rules...

Event viewer is in XPe Repository db.

I am not sure I understand other questions.

We were told by MS Legal that the viewers were allowed so go figure what is
allowed.
