textbox formatting problem

i used an existing company powerpoint .ppt and saved it
as .pot to use as a template. whenever i use the text box
option to add labels to my diagrams, it is formatted for a
mini bullet. I choose bullets and numbering and choose
none, but the type is still indented. I choose left
alignment and it is still indented. I pull the margin
(indent) handles (that show up in the ruler) over to the
left, but the text doesn't move. i open the textbox dialog
and choose the textbox tab, but see nothing about indent
or margin.

How do i change the default for textbox so that when i
make a new textbox the text left aligns at the left edge
of the textbox automatically?

What version of PowerPoint are you using? In PowerPoint 2002 and 2003,
there is a set of Internal margin boxes under Format | Textbox...| {tab}
Textbox.

Just to verify, there are no leading spaces or tabs in the text, correct?

To set the text to line up exactly with the left edge, I follow these steps.
1) select Textbox
2) on the menu bar, Format | Textbox ... and select the tab marked Textbox
3) set the left Internal Margin to 0"
4) left align text

Sounds like you have done most of this correctly. Post back if it still
does not function after double checking each part of this or if you are
using a different version of PowerPoint.

thank you for your response. i'm using ppt 2000. No tabs
or leading spaces and it is left align.

For some unknown reason, the default textbox is an
indented bullet. i make the bullet "none" but still have
the indent and cannot get rid of it.

It shows the textbox indents on the ruler, but when i try
to adjust them nothing happens. I also set "format
textbox" internal margins to o for left margin to no
avail.

Maybe i have a buggy template. when i create a new ppt,
there is no problem. It would be nice to fix the one i'm
using rather than create a new template from scratch. I
May have to make a new template.

Make a text box exactly the way you want it. Then right click it and select
"Set AutoShape Defaults". Then create another text object and see if it
isn't the way you intend, over and over. That will take care of the
current presentation, but it would be best if you go to View > Master >
Slide Master and do the same thing. When you're done, delete the text
objects and save the template as Design Template (*.POT). Now all
presentations created based on the template will have the text objects
without bullets and indents.

Same problem here: I'm using Powerpoint 2000 SP3 and the textbox does NOT
respond to indent changes - it always has the text indented as if it's a
bullet list.
