Text suddenly dissappeared!!

I was in the middle of writing a paper and all of a sudden, the entire page
just dissappeared. I am on a laptop using Microsoft Office 2003. This is
the 2nd time today this has happened. I've tried everything I can think of.
Any suggestions???
 
At a guess, you accidentally brushed the laptop's trackpad, selecting
text--your next typing replaced the selection, and your paper disappeared.

You can both/either reduce the trackpad sensitivity (somewhere in Windows,
don't ask me where), and turn off "typing replaces selection," (in Word,
Tools | Options, Edit tab).
 
And of course, immediately Undo to get the text back.
