text in a cell

I was wondering if this could be done

I'm trying to calculate a formula with text it for example
in cell a1 i have $0.69
in cell b1 i hace 2/3.00 which is 1.50
in cell c1 i hace a formula that gives me the gross margin
wich is (b1-a1)/b1. the probels is that excel can figure
out the text 2/3.00 and i don't want to put in 1.50 is
there a way to do this?

Hi - one option is to keep your text as "2/3.00" and add a new column for your numerical retail (1.50), and use that for your calc. The new column can either not be displayed in the print area or hidden
