I was wondering if there's any way to get a memo field to have formatting
buttons ie Bold, Italic and Colours?

If you are using Access 2007, there are some options for rich text. If you
are using an earlier version of Access, you would have to use a third-party
rich text control.

Ok, so in design view of the table, set the Text Format property of the Memo
field to 'Rich Text'.
