Hi,

Can anyone suggest a utility or command line to terminate Outlook,
regardless of what's being open as far as e-mails, contacts, etc., all I
need to do is to exit out of Outlook so that backup software can execute.

Thanks!

Thanks Brian, yes a similar utility with a command line option, this
application uses GUI interface. I have to be able to execute a batch file
that will close Outlook automatically with out any involvement form users.

I'm using backup software that requires exclusive access to outlook.pst and
simply users don't rember to close outlook when it's scheduled to do a
backup.

I'm not sure I'd trust the integrity of a PST after a forced shutdown of
Outlook. If a pending I/O were abruptly terminated, for example, important
data in the write buffer might not get flushed to the PST, resulting in
corrupt pointers. It's no different than any database. Internal
consistency is everything. I don't *know* that would be a problem, since I
don't know how robust Outlook is in writing its data or the timing that's
involved, but I can sure imagine problems.

Why not just give those lacking memory cells the ultimatum: Sure you can
leave your Outlook open all the time, just don't expect your data to be
backed up. We'll be glad to back it up if you close Outlook.
