As a rule, you shouldn't touch the registry unless there is a specific
reason to do so. What particular problem are you experiencing?

Thankyou for your help.

That kind of comment from a friend is very rarely helpful.

What are your anti-virus and anti-spyware arrangements?

Hope this helps.

From what I read, Tencent QQ is a popular Chinese IM program. I don't
believe it is spyware per se, but rather adware; that is, it serves you
ads while you use it. If you don't like the program, simply uninstall
it. For good measure, run Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and
SUPERAntiSpyware and you'll be fine. Again, there is no need to touch
the registry.

Did you uninstall it first ?

You can have more than one a/v on the system , as long as you only run
one at a time .

<snip>

But most will run in the background, necessitating footling around with
services and process-killing to get one to fully stop before starting
another - and that isn't always possible, you'd need to mess around with
start-ups (possibly even uninstalling the whole AV product in some cases)
and then reboot. Why go to all the bother?

(Re-reads post) Unless we're talking just storing the *installation file* on
your machine...

You are playing with fire. An anti-virus and a firewall is very much
insufficient protection for your computer. You also need to run
anti-spyware software. The best anti-spyware program is MalwareBytes
Anti-Malware. But no single anti-spyware program is anywhere near
perfect, and good protection is achieved only by running at least two
or three. I would also add SuperAntiSpyware, and perhaps others, to
what you run.

Why are you such a fear monger? I don't use ANY anti-spyware or anti-virus
programs and my
computer runs flawlessly.

You've said this many times, and as you know, I think your behavior in
this regard is foolhardy. You too are looking for trouble, and are
only lucky that you haven't run into it yet.

I never have a problem updating or installing
anything.
To be fair however, I do NOT click on unknown items or open mail from
unknown sources.

Nonsense. You yourself stated you haven't had a virus in ten years and you
got that from a floppy.

You have made your position clear many times so what Ken says is not
nonsense. 99.9% of knowledgeable users posting here do NOT agree with
you.

Unknown: If you don't use any protection, look for a CTD
infection coming your way any day now. You have been extremely
foolish.

The point I am trying to make is to teach caution when operating a computer
instead of instilling fear in users by telling them they need all that
garbage. (Virus and spyware programs) They only cause problems.

Utter hogwash-------you teaching fear also?

LMAO

Far more problems would result from someone following your dangerous
advice. Have you ever heard of Conficker, for instance?
