I have a brand new Windows XP Home machine. It was all
set up and working, but then it will np longer
connect to the internet, or receive e-mails. On investigation, nothing
appears to be wrong, but the machine will not connect. I delete the
modem, and re-boot the machine. Shut down and re install the modem, and
it all works. Two hours later the same problem. The same fix works
again, but I am still no closer to understanding what has happened, and
the connection has gone once again.
Anyone have any idea as to the cause of the problem (I have swapped
PCI sockets that the modem is in), or how to fix it permanently?

No - I probably erroniously assumed that as I had just bought the modem
it would have the latest drivers. Also, I have the feeling that it is
something else causing the failure, but as I can't find out what the
failure is it is difficult to track it down. I'll check on the driver
however.
Thanks.

Perhaps you purchased a defective modem. Can you have the seller give you a
different one to try?

Tomorrow it's new drivers if they are available and then a new modem.
For the cost of a new modem I'm wasting a lot of time on this.
