Hi

Discussed several times and now we have a kb ! ;)

Causes for slow XP2 performance:

• You have spyware or malware running on the computer.
• You have viruses that are running on the computer.
• You do not have sufficient free space on the hard disk.
• You do not have sufficient random access memory (RAM) installed on
the computer.
• You have corrupted or outdated drivers.

• *You have too many files in the Recycle Bin or temporary folders*.

So use CCleaner and remove this junkyard and then scan with other
tools.

;-)

And what is the remedy recommended?

"use the disk cleanup tool"--which is built into the OS, free, schedulable,
and run automatically when disk space gets scarce.

Perhaps because the "toy" was written by the folks who know best what is
safe to do with the registry and temporary files, and how much is worth
doing, in terms of effort expended versus measured return in performance.

Hi Bill

"Time goes on" and MS is of course aware of that
the built in disk cleanup tool is a "toy" and nothing else.

With todays situation with users and broadband connections
a lot of installs/uninstalls and flooding temporarily junk including
hidden malware within hidden folders this is a mess and
it´s not enough with disk cleanup.

This was designed with a totally different sutuation.

IMHO. (nothing can make change my mind over this)

I´ve seen too many overloaded PCs with GBs of junk.

Just to add my 2 cents ... CCleaner does remove "something" that caused
a fellow MVP to not be able to install the latest Office Service Pack.
Upon restoring the registry the SP installed. Have any clue to what was
removed, plun ?

It might have removed the Microsoft Installer (.msi) files needed to
determine what programs and features were installed and where they were
installed.

I had tried to install a feature for Office XP for Students and Teachers,
but the installation failed, causing the .msi files to be deleted since the
updating of the files never occurred. The only solution was to download and
install the Windows Install Clean Up utility
(http://download.microsoft.com/download/e/9/d/e9d80355-7ab4-45b8-80e8-983a48d5e1bd/msicuu2.exe).
When I ran it, I selected Office XP for Teachers and Students, and the
utility removed all the Windows Installer files associated with Office XP for
Teachers and Students. I was then able to reinstall Office and download the
updates.

Hello Bill,

i am on Pluns side dis time. ;)

The cleanup tool does only the MS temp and internet temp!!!!
So after using the cleanup tool the Opera/Netscape/Firefox temp files
are all still there!
So CCleaner also free schedulable and run automatically, is better!

Hi

As I know SP2 is a standalone install.

Otherwise it is a "corrupt" construction which depends
on "junk yard" files.

I can inform CCleaner about this if it is a misbehavior.
or yourself, http://forum.ccleaner.com/

It´s probably 10 million downloads now so it´s strange
if this is a common problem ?

Hi Tom

Well, we have no sides in a discussion ;)

I hope MS can include a robust working tool for MSAS Beta 2. ;)

Hi

One more answer, I checked MS disk cleanup tool.

Maybe he used the MS clean up tool and removed all MS Office
install files ? and then blame CCleaner for this ;)
