I have downloaded the templates that I wanted off
microsoft's site. They are saved as cabinets and when I
open it a "text import wizard comes up
that says that my data is Delimited and to choose the file
type that best describes my data. I choose delimited, hit
next, on step 2 I keep the delimiters as the default-tab,
hit next, step 3 I keep the column data format as general
and hit finish. The file opens with symbols not english.

I tried saving the templates as .xls format and the text
import wizard came up again.
Why is this so hard?
Can anyone help?

Those .cab files are MS versions of .zip files. I think they're compressed and
contain (possibly) more than one file within it.

You need to extract the contents to get to the good stuff.

I know that Winzip (http://www.winzip.com) can open these. And I bet other
extracting programs can, too.

Winzip does have an evaluation period--so you can try before you buy.

I've never used it, but looking at its web page, it looks like it'll do .cab's,
too.
