I've created a template in Word 2002. I'd like to make some changes, but when
I go to open it, it goes into it "dialogue" phase. How can I get the
"{fillin}" brackets back?

Perhaps I wasn't clear . I open the template, and instead of seeing the
template itself, with the text and fields, the dialogue box with the prompt
comes on. I'm forced to respond to each prompt, and then I have the completed
form, but not the original.

Make sure you are opening your template rather than creating a new document
from it. (Look at the title bar.)

Alt-F9 toggles display of field codes on and off.
