Temp Internet Files deleted upon browser closing problem fixed?

A while ago, I posted that after doing some Windows
Updates, my option to have all Temporary Internet Files
deleted upon exiting the browser didn't work.
(Unfortunately, someone from MS asked me what Update I
downloaded before the problem occured but I still don't
know.)

Has a fix been made for this problem? I've downloaded a
few updates since then but the problem still exists.

Thanks,
Keith

I neglected to mention that my option to "Empty Temp
Internet folder upon browser exit" in Advanced *IS*
checked. My cache maximum is 60 MB. I've checked the
Web pages of posters who helped me in the past to see if
any of their directions worked.

However, the problem still persists.

Keith,
When you select that option it modifies the following entry in the Registry:

; where the value of "0" empties the cache when the browser is closed

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet
Settings\Cache]
"Persistent"=dword:00000000

If the above is correct, then most likely your cache folder(s) is corrupt.

How do I check that entry in the Registry"
Open Regedit (Start | Run (type) "regedit" (no quotes)
In the left pane click open the "+" until you get to:

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet
Settings\Cache]

The entry in the right pane ("Persistent") should be set to:
dword:00000000

where the value of "0" empties the cache when the browser is closed,
the value of "1" does not ....... always Export before editing.

[otherwise]

Keith,
Two things I would try:
1. Delete the TIF folder (if you haven't already.) It might be corrupted.
http://mvps.org/winhelp2002/delcache.htm
2. Disable programs running in the background- especially any program
designed to work, in some way, with IE. One of them might be interfering.
Have you checked for malware? http://mvps.org/winhelp2002/unwanted.htm

Keith,
Did you log on as Administrator and delete the "username" folder?
Where "username" is the account you normally use ......
[Example]
C:\Documents and Settings\username\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files

You need to delete the "Temporary Internet Files" folder,
not just the files within those folders. When you delete that
folder it removes all 4 of the sub-folders and the index.dat.

The 4 folders and index.dat will be rebuilt on restart.
If you did all that and the Registry entry is correct, then
possibly that "username" account is corrupt, and you may need
to create a new one?
