Hi

I have Win 2000 newly installed as an upgrade from Win 98. When I try to
install a third paty software there comes a message that there is not enough
space in the Temp directory. However the Temp folder under the Windows tab
is empty. How can I come about this problem.

Thank's in advance. Karl

It does not matter if the temp directory is empty or not. What
matters is the amount of free space on the disk where the
temp directory is located.

Furthermore the temp directory that should be used is in:

C:\Documents and Settings\%profile%\Local Settings\Temp

Not C:\WINNT\Temp

Local Settings is hidden so to see it you need to enable show all files folders extensions etc...Windows Explorer | Tools | Folder Options | View | options are in the list box.

It does not really matter which temp directory is used,
as long as there is sufficient space on the drive where
it resides.

Of course not. I wasn't arguing with you. I was just pointing out that the temp directory off WINNT is rarely used for installation. It's an old installer that is using that. Sounds hardcoded. He might try just making a folder C:\Windows\temp if space isn't the issue. Also set the Environment variable Temp and Tmp to C:\WINNT\temp.

The OP didn't say it was a space issue. If it ultimately was then of course that's the issue and you addressed it. If it's not then I have tried to provide alternate reasons for the issue.

Thank's for your replies which solved the problem.
