Does anyone know how to use this stupid DOS box-like thing that appears in
XP when on runs Telnet ? Why doesn't it look like the Telnet that was in
W98se ?

I wanted to quickly check the size of emails waiting for me. In W98se I
just run Telnet, and on a drop down menu enter pop.freeserve.net, enter
port 110 somewhere, turn on local echo, type "user useraccountname" and hit
[Enter], then type "pass password" and hit [Enter] ....then I can list
and dele etc. before I type "Quit" and hit [Enter] ..to execute my "pending"
commands.

Why did they have to make Telnet in XP HORRIBLE and unfamiliar ???

Because Telnet is insecure and a bad choice. It sends passwords in the
clear.

Thanx ...I looked at Hyperterminal b4 I posted and thought to myself , "I
wonder what that's for." I'll now have a closer look into Hyperterminal :-)

Use hyperterminal on Start.

It will even ask if you want it to replace telnet.

Couldn't get along with Hyperterminal, so I rummaged through my ISP's pages
and found
http://www.freeserve.com/help/id/7011.htm#section_3
....so now I'm happy with that DOS box type Telnet :-)
