Telephony Service in XP

I'just started to have problem using my modem in my
Windows XP system. In Control Panel double click on Phone
and Modem gives me the following error:

"Phone And Modem control panel can not be opened. You may
have a problem starting telephony service."

I checked the list of services, off the Administrative
Tools, and noticed that Telephony is not listed there.

Any suggestions as to what is going on and what I need to
do is greatly appreciated.

Have you a System restore or sfc /scannow?
