Hi, not sure exactly what the problem is, but I dont seem
to be able to access Taskman anymore. Nothing happens
when I ctrl-alt-del, and even if I try to run Taskman
nothing!

I tried to delete taskman.exe but it just gets replaced
straight away! I have up to date av software running -
any help would be appreciated! I have tried to track
down any worms using various techniques but no luck so
far.

Thanks.

Hi

Virus-check your system with the latest definitions for your AV program.

Hi,

Updated my definitions today, still not detecting
anything tho!

Maybe I need to get different AV software - I tried the
McAfee Stinger Program - It didn't fix anything either!

Hi

Try AVG - www.grisoft.com - it's free and won't clog your system up with
useless dross.

Hi,

Updated my definitions today, still not detecting
anything tho!

Maybe I need to get different AV software - I tried the
McAfee Stinger Program - It didn't fix anything either!

This happened to a machine I was cleaning yesterday from Sasser - I got
rid of the 2 variants plus Blaster and a lot of spyware. Still couldn't
get Task Manager or regedit to work, which meant the computer was still
infected. This after running Stinger, Sasser and Blaster tools, and
patching. What worked was installing a good firewall (not just enabling
XP's built-in one) and seeing what got blocked. Found another trojan
which, when removed, finally gave me a clean machine. Then I was able
to install a full-featured av and scan with *that*. You really have to
work at malware removal - sometimes it isn't a case of just running a
tool, or even two tools.
