Taskbar

I'm having a problem with my Taskbar on Windows XP. When I open a program
the window for it doesn't appear and it doesn't appear on the taskbar. It
is the same with any program though I think it seemed to start with IE or
OE. Once I have selected the program (using ALT + TAB or minimizing every
other window) the new windows is present at the back and it (slowly) appears
on the taskbar.

Any ideas anyone?
