In other words, place your mouse-arrow over the upper edge of the Taskbar
until it forms a double arrow and then pull it down so that you obtain a
single band. Isn't that what you wanted? Hans

Right-click the Taskbar and uncheck "Lock the taskbar". Now resize the
taskbar and lock it again. If you're unable to resize the taskbar, see this
tip from Keith Miller.

Was using 98SE but now on XP. Taskbar has grown in
height . Icons are small but I still can't resize. I need
