On the desktop, the shortcut's name is: "INTERNET EXPLORER".
On the taskbar, the application's name is: "MSN CHANNEL PAGE -
MICROSOFT INTERNET EXPLORER".

How do I change the application's name (on the Taskbar) to: "INTERNET
EXPLORER"?

If by "the app's name" you mean IE itself, this (a) has nothing to do with
Excel (b) requires tweaking the registry.

While I successfully decustomised my own IE and OE,

"WARNING: If you use Registry Editor incorrectly, you may cause serious
problems".
