Taskbar won't autohide.

I have my taskbar set to autohide and always on top, but it won't hide, it just sits there on top of everything, never shrinking back down. If I turn autohide off and then back on, it will hide, but once I move my mouse over it and it expands again it won't autohide when I move my mouse away and start working in a program. Does anyone have any idea why it refuses to be a good little taskbar and hide when its supposed to?
