Taskbar; toolbar; options gray

I right-click on the taskbar and select toolbars. All options are gray. I
right-click on taskbar and select properties. I can check the show quick
launch option. I go back to taskbar/toolbars and all options are still gray
except that there is now a check on quick launch. I've been to several sites
such as MS, kellys-korner-xp and downloaded various scripts and registry
entries. No luck. Any thoughts?

After more looking around various places I finally came up with this set of
registry entries which solved my problem.
