Hi,
I'm running WinXP. I want to resize the witdth of my taskbar but it won't
let me resize it to an exact size. It increases with intervals of 25-30
pixels. Something like the illustration below:

________
____________
________________

I know that it is possible to resize it smoothly. I used to have this
functionality on my pc. Sadly, I had to reinstall XP today and I don't know
how to get it back.

Can anyone help?

thanks
Alex

PS: I've googled for this without any luck so far.

I wasnt aware the taskbar width was resizable. Did you install a
third party application?

The taskbar width is resizable by simply dragging.it to the width you prefer
(make sure it's unlocked first). Mine, for example, is two lines high.

*"high" means height, not *width*.

When you reinstalled XP it may have reset your Display settings
ie:1280 by 960 pixels > to I think the default in XP is 800 by 600, which
would make resizing the taskbar seem like bigger "jumps" or blocks.

Try increasing screen resolution (display settings )if you can also reducing
the Icon sizes in the taskbar might help. (unlock the task bar, right click
section next to icons and selet view)

Assuming that the taskbar is in its default position on the bottom of the
screen, it always goes all the way from one side of the screen to the other.
In that position it can be expanded up or contracted down. However, whether
rightly or wrongly, it's very common for people to call that sort of change
a change in *width*. Many people refer to somethings's shorter dimension as
its width, regardless of orientation. Most people would call a two-inch
belt wider than a one-inch one, not higher.

And of course, if the task bar is on the left or right side of the screen,
its width can be be changed, even by your definition of "width."

I guess I can agree with that, people often refer to "depth" (in the real
wolrd) as width. I wasn't trying to be snide, but in these forums its also
likely that someone installs a 3rd party app and comes here to troubleshoot
it.

OK, glad we agree.

I've always had 1280x1024 and I know for sure that it was smooth scrolling
without any 3rd party software. I just don't know how I got it.

The funny thing is that it got enabled a few weeks before formatting, when I
was trying to change performance settings since my computer was being too
slow. I also installed ie7b and it messed up some of my computer settings.
Maybe it was ie7 behind that smooth scrolling. (I don't want to reinstall it.)
