Taskbar problems

I am having trouble with the taskbar - I think I have
solved one problem and created another.

For the last week or so, when I started the computer the
quicklaunch icons are reduced to 3 visible, and there was
a new Search item. No matter what the settings were,
this is what reappeared each time it restarted.

In addition, the internet settings connection option has
been changing between the three options, and a connection
box often appears on startup.

I have Norton antivirus,a scan with this turned up
nothing. I then installed Spybot and Ad-Aware, which
both turned up numerous problems.

But this didn't solve my problem! I found an old post in
this NG which advised the following:

Type the command in RUN box.
Regsvr32 /u C:\Windows\System32\omniband.dll

Then, rename C:\Windows\System32\omniband.dll to
old_omniband.dll and restart Windows.

This stopped the Search icon appearing, but now the
quicklaunch doesn't appear at all, until I check it, and
is not there on restart.

And it still wants to dial up.

Sorry for the long post, but thought it best to describe
my problem exactly.

thanks in advance

Dave

Dave,

The Quick Launch issue is caused by a malware BlazeFind. Open Registry Editor and navigate to:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\WindowsNT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon
In the right-pane, change the value of Userinit to "C:\WINDOWS\system32\userinit.exe,"
(Type the above value exactly as given, including the comma - exclude the quotes)

Close Registry Editor and restart Windows. The Quick Launch settings should be retained now.

Quick Launch: Gives error message, Cannot Create Toolbar

Either download the .reg or .vbs from here or run my utility listed below it
to correct.
Note: If you already have my utility downloaded, you will need to
