In XP how do I stop "informative" popups from the taskbar? Thinks like I am
now connected to the wireless, etc.

Go to <http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm>. Scroll down to
#11. Download the baltips.vbs file at "Enable/Disable Balloon Tips".
Put it somewhere handy. Then put a shortcut in your [Start > Programs].

When you click the baltips icon in [Start > Programs], it will disable
balloon tips. When you click it again, it will enable balloon tips.
