taskbar hangs

When XP starts a mouse over on the taskbar shows the hourglass so the Start
button is unusable. I traced the possible problem to an install process that
is incomplete and will not go away when the system is rebooted. Tried a
clean boot using msconfig with no luck. How can I find and kill off the
install, I think that it is a printer install that has gone bad?

Rick,
Sorry to say the installer cleanup utility did not help. It could not be
installed because the installer was busy doing something, who knows what. Oh
well, it was worth a try.

What shows up in Task Manager (Ctrl-Alt-Delete then Task List button)?

I get about 42 processes non of which seem to be the installer process.

Finally got the cleanup utility to run but it did not correct the problem
