Taskbar Crashes

2 or 3 times a day, my taskbar freezes. When I hover my mouse cursor over it,
I get the hour glass. I can still work with any programs that are currently
open and can run WIndows Explorer, go to my profile, go to the Start Menu
folder and run any program that I want OK. If I have clicked on anything on
the taskbar on the the Start button, after about 10 minutes, everything I
clicked on happens at once.

After the 2nd, 3rd or sometimes the 4th time, my taskbar doesn't come back
and my PC becomes unstable so I have to re-boot. Some days it doesn't happen
- it is really weird. I have spent 2 days searching Google and tried
everything I can find but no luck yet. Most of the suggestions on Google have
invloved either network configuration or the SSDP Discovery Service (also on
the Microsoft Knowledge base) but nothing has helped so far.

I have a Dell Latitude D610 running through a docking station via a Belkin
KVM - the other input to the KVM is a Dell Desktop that is about 3 years old
- I am not having problems with this. I have tried getting rid of the KVM but
it doesn't make any difference. I have tried getting rid of the docking
station but that doesn't change things either. Ithought it might be related
to my Belkin wireless keyboard and mouse so I changed those out but that
didn't make it any better.

I am fairly sure it is related to network connectivity, internet, ADSL or
something like that as I had no problems the other day whe I used my laptop
by itself without the wireless being connected - I was on a train for 3 hours
and everything was fine.

I Just discovered that if I use the 'Disable Wireless' function key on my
laptop, my taskbar unfreezes straight away so it is definitely a problem with
networking. I tried leaving my WiFi on and Bluetooth off but that didn't help
so it seems it is something to do with WiFi.

I hope this gives some of you boffins out there something else to go on.

Here is a further update - I can get the taskbar to lock by doing the
following:

1 - after booting up, wait until my wireless connection is connected
2 - Click Start, Control Panel, Taskbar and Start Menu
3 - Click the Start Menu tab and then Customize
4 - Change anything - e.g. Large icons to Small icons then click OK and OK
again
5 - Task bar is now frozen until I disable wireless - on my laptop I press
Fn and F2
6 - 2-3 seconds after disabling wireless, the taskbar is back

I decided to update my network card drivers and also my wireless router
firmware - up to now this seems to have cured the problem

More later...

My previous thread was wrong - I have not cured my problem - it was just
hiding for a while - I am really stumped with this one - can anyone help?
