Taskbar changes width

Hi,

For as many versions of Windows with a taskbar that I recall, I have kept my
taskbar docked on the left of the screen, I find height more useful in Word
etc than width.

QUESTION: When I lock the task bar on the left it resets itself to a
narrower width despite the locked setting! How can I stop this.

XP Pro, SP1 recent re-install and original install.

I tried the Kelly's Taskbar Repair Tool but this just moves the taskbar back
to the bottom.

Very few programs nowadays seem to recognise a task bar on the left,
requiring a constant repositioning of windows. MS programs used to be OK at
this but under XP a lot of them open under the taskbar too!

I don't think you can stop it. There is a slight bit of resizing done when
locking the taskbar, regardless of its position on the monitor.

No problem doing this on any version of W98 or NT4. It is not a slight
change, it goes from a width just wide enough to display the start button to
minute - 1 small icon width - about an 80% reduction in width!

Win98 and NT do not have a Lock Taskbar option. I agree with you that this
is a problem. I ran into it as well when I tried using a left hand taskbar.
