In Window's messanger it is possible to close the window without closing the
program, the taskbar button just goes away and the program has an icon next
to the clock if I want to use it again. Is it possible to do this with
Outlook???

Depends upon what version of Outlook you're talking about. With Outlook
2003 you'll see the icon on the system tray (next to the clock).
Right-click that and choose "Hide when minimized." Then, instead of
closing Outlook, minimize it.

Or you could just add an icon for Outlook to your Quick Launch bar (usually
next to the Start menu) and close Outlook each time you're done with it.

Outlook 2003 has this function built into the icon that it places in the
notification area of the system tray. Outlook 2002 had a registry setting
that would allow it. Versions prior to that required a third party tool,
many of which are available free for the downloading.
