Suddenly my taskbar appearance has changed. The icons are larger and appear
distorted. The clock used to just show the time and now it shows the time
and day of the week. I am the only user profile that has been affected. Any
suggestions on how to restore the appearance?

Sounds like the taskbar is two rows high. Right click a blank area of the
taskbar, then untic Lock the Taskbar if its checked,. Then move the cursor
to the top of the task bar, hover it there and you should get a two headed
arrow, drag it down to change to one row. Then lock the taskbar.

No, the task bar was the regular height. However, when I was trying to fix it
I found the solution - I right clicked on desktop, chose properties, selected
appearance tab and chose for Window & Buttons "Windows Classic Style". After
this loaded I went back to the original setting of "Windows XP Style" and
this reloaded my original appearance and obviously restored whatever settings
had been changed to cause the distortion.

Thanks anyway for the suggestion.

Glad you got it fixed and thanks for posting back the resolution.
