I cannot get my task scheduler to run automatically. It keeps asking for a
password and an administrator. I am the admisitrator, however i cannot get it
or the disk cleaner to run. Please help.

Hi Rob,

The account under which Task Scheduler is to run must be passworded.

If you want XP to log you on automatically after you password the
account, here's the procedure:

1. Go to Start => Run
2. Type in (or copy and paste from here)

control userpasswords2 (note the space after "control")

3. Click OK (or press the enter key)
4. In the resulting window, uncheck "Users must enter a user name and
password....."
5. Click once on the account you want XP to boot into without stopping
at the "enter a password" screen
6. Click OK
7. Enter the new password for the account twice in the window that pops
up, Click OK

Easiest thing is to assign a password to the account.

Thank you, Claymore,
I, too, was an Administrator without provileges when it came to using the
Task Scheduler, and followed your advice. However, I switched steps 4 and
5, because if I unchecked in step 4, the screen in step 5 was grayed out. (I
edited the quote below to move step 5 ahead of step 4 and renumbered.)

Running Windows XP Professional SP2.

Thanks very much for the correction, Larry. That's what I get for being
in too much of a rush.

Cheers!
