trojan-downloader win 32 small.cdj.it says it is somthing called private exe.
wont let me just delete it. i dont know how to get rid of it. would this be
the problem with task mgr?thanks for any help.

MrVette,
This is indeed a clear sign of a virus that has done this. I would suggest
you immediately download the antivirus program listed below and install it.
After installation do a complete system scan with it and delete any files
found infected by it.

Antivir: www.free-av.com

Hope this helps

Download MULTI_AV.EXE from the URL --
http://www.ik-cs.com/programs/virtools/Multi_AV.exe

To use this utility, perform the following...
Execute; Multi_AV.exe { Note: You must use the default folder C:\AV-CLS }
Choose; Unzip
Choose; Close

Execute; C:\AV-CLS\StartMenu.BAT
{ or Double-click on 'Start Menu' in C:\AV-CLS }

NOTE: You may have to disable your software FireWall or allow WGET.EXE to go through your
FireWall to allow it to download the needed AV vendor related files.

C:\AV-CLS\StartMenu.BAT -- { or Double-click on 'Start Menu' in C:\AV-CLS}
This will bring up the initial menu of choices and should be executed in Normal Mode.
This way all the components can be downloaded from each AV vendor's web site.
The choices are; Sophos, Trend, McAfee, Kaspersky, Exit this menu and Reboot the PC.

You can choose to go to each menu item and just download the needed files or you can
download the files and perform a scan in Normal Mode. Once you have downloaded the files
needed for each scanner you want to use, you should reboot the PC into Safe Mode [F8 key
during boot] and re-run the menu again and choose which scanner you want to run in Safe
Mode. It is suggested to run the scanners in both Safe Mode and Normal Mode.

When the menu is displayed hitting 'H' or 'h' will bring up a more comprehensive PDF help
file. http://www.ik-cs.com/multi-av.htm

Before I wrote this topic I found a virus called "private.exe" using kapersky
online scanner. So I looked and found it in the registry and then deleted it.
That's when I noticed the task manager wasn't working. So I don't know if the
virus shut down task manager or if deleting that value shut it down. I have
norton AV but it never found anything. So is there a way to get the deleted
value back? Do I need to re-install windows? Thanks for helping.

OK no need for more help, I found a solution in a different post. I
downloaded a program to enable task manager and it worked. The program is
called "taskmgrenab". Search this forum to find it. Thanks for any help...

The Multi AV Scanning Tool that I posted about would have corrected the problem with the
Task Manager as well as give you the capability to perform an exhaustive scan to make sure
your PC was indeed clean.
