Task manager won't end tasks. When I use ctrl alt del to
bring up task manager,it says I have 44 processes
running. When I highlight one and try to end it it appears
to close but just pop up in the processes again.

What does a scan with a current antivirus program (meaning a version not
earlier than 2002 and using updated virus definitions) show? Also,
remove spyware with Spybot Search & Destroy from www.security.kolla.de
and Ad-aware from www.lavasoftusa.com. Be sure to update these programs
before running them. It is best to run antivirus and spyware removal
tools in Safe Mode.

Cheers,

(very mixed-up reply posting fixed for clarity)

OK, the AUTOUP~1.EXE is a trojan. patahping.exe doesn't get any hits
from Google, and is therefore suspicious. I see that you have Norton
AV, but perhaps you haven't been keeping the definitions updated,
perhaps its an older version, or perhaps it just didn't catch the
trojan. I'd do an online virus scan if possible, or update Norton and
scan in safe mode. I'd also remove spyware with Spybot Search &
Destroy (www.security.kolla.de) and Ad-aware (www.lavasoftusa.com). Be
sure to update these programs before running, and it is a good idea to
do virus/spyware scans in Safe Mode. Post back if you need more help.
