Hi

When an application get's stuck and consumes 100% of processor time, to
kill it, I need to open Task Manager which takes ages to open. Can I do
anything about it?

regards
Tomaz

If your system is running slowly and applcation 'freeze', then you should investigate for possible virus / worms. If you do not use a reputable anti-virus application do so immediately and get the latest updates before scanning the PC

If you are confident that it isn't caused by a worm or virus then try tuning your PC, follow the information provided in this use PC World article

Hope this gets you back up to speed.

Hello Tomaz,

Thank you for posting here.

When you see the CPU and memory have 100% usage that means your computer is
very busy. It occurs because that some certain applications spent all the
resources of CPU or Memory.

Therefore the task manager will open slowly. Using task manager you could
find out these applications, and then kill them.
For more information you may browse the following web site:
Using the Task Manager
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=/directory/worldwide/en
-gb%2Ftask.asp

On the other hand, you may try to use Perfmon to check which thread in the
application causes this issue.
1. Click Start->Run,type perfmon
2. Click "+" to add counter, select Thread and select all threads for the
problemtic process. Select ¡°ID thread¡± and %process time under counters.
3. You can press "Ctr+R" to show the result and you can find the thread ID
and the problemtic thread of the process.
This information is usually useful for debugging the process to find the
cause of the issue. If it is a Windows system process, you can contact
Microsoft Product Support Services via telephone so that a dedicated
Support Professional can assist with your request. Please be advised that
contacting phone support will be a charged call. However, if you are simply
requesting a hotfix be sent to you and no other support then charges are
usually refunded or waived.
To obtain the phone numbers for specific technology request please take a
look at the web site listed below.

I hope the information I have provided you proves helpful!
If you have any questions please do not hesitate to let me know.
Thanks and regards,
