Task Manager won't stay up

Pressing Ctrl-Alt-Del brings up the Task Manager, but only for a
second or 2. It closes on its own. Running in from
c:\windows\system32\taskmgr.exe produces the same result.

Any suggestions?

Get the emergency utils from the page of Doug Knox, they have usable
versions of regedit, msconfig and task manager.

Also perform a virus scan.

There is nothing wrong with his files so it's a waste to get exact copies of them. It is the virus shutting the program down.
