Task Manager will not open

When I press Control+Alt+Delete the menu pops up, but if I click on Task Manger it will not open. A monitor icon appears on the taskbar, but cannot be maximized. What's wrong ?

It's always wise to search the group first, to see if others have the same
problem. "Taskbar" brings up dozens of hits, including this one from Chris L.

There is a very good chance this is being caused by a virus.

1) Goto Start>>Run>>Type "regedit"
2) Navigate to
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run and delete
"Explorer %SYSTEM%\Explorer.exe"
3) Reboot your PC as normal.

Joe,

Dev has some excellent ideas for you to try. Here's another way you can
open the Task Manager as well.

Press CTRL+SHIFT+ESC. If you get the icon on the taskbar, you can try
double-clicking it and see if it restores the UI for you.
