I was working with an unfamilar XP computer today (not
mine - don't know all that's loaded on it), trying to
diagnosis an unrelated (I think) network issue. However,
whenever I tried to ctrl-alt-delete to get to the Task
Manager, the comptuer would seem to ignore me.
Same thing when I tried to run "taskman" from the command
line - no error message, no beeping back. I went thru
Windows Help and tried a link to get to it from there,
and I got a "Program Can Not Be Run" help screen.
My best guess for the network problem was a program
running in the background that was disrputing things - is
it possible for a program to block use of the Task
Manager? Is there an easy way to check if someone's
accidently turned off/uninstalled the Task Manager?
I've never had a situation in Windows where ctrl-alt-
delete didn't at least do something, so I'm completely
baffled.
(Now that I'm a half hour away from the computer, it just
occured to me that I should've tried Safe Mode. Anything
else?)
Thanks for any help.
