Task bar problems

The Win XP taskbar seems to have a will of its own. The height of the task
bar has suddenly doubled, taking up more room than I want to give it. I
can't find a setting anywhere to control its size. Any suggestions?

Move the mouse pointer to the very top of the toolbar. The point now
becomes an arrow with two point (top/bottom). Click the left mouse button
and drig the top line down. You now have re-sized the tools bar.

John,
Right-click the taskbar and un-check "Lock The Taskbar".
Then, drag the upper boarder down so that the task bar
reverts to its nominal size. Then, re-lock the taskbar by again
right-clicking the taskbar to show the option.

my bar is the same way, the icons on the bottom right are
stacked, and the clock is displaying date, day, and time.
I did not change anything, it seemed to appear after I
used windows update. I can not drag it down to normal
size.

I am having the same problems, and I have tried to change all the settings, and nothing works. I have also tried the solutions listed here to no avail. The difference is that you Guys have had this issue for months, mine has just occurred. I was setting up bluetooth on my pc at the time and I have loaded several games also...could this be a cause

Kelly's Korner (he's an MS partner and posts here frequently, but google for
his site) has a small piece of registry code that will reset the toolbar.
It's a bit cumbersome to use, though; you have to change the registry, then
open Task Manager, find and shut down the explorer.exe process and then
restart it. (If someone who speaks Visual Basic could automate that process,
it would be a boon to a lot of people.)
I reposted here, thanking Kelly for the solution and asking if anyone knew
what the problem was in order to prevent it. Nada. In my case, the toolbar
not only sometimes expands vertically and can't be resized, but several
additional vertical bars appear that prevent open program icons from filling
all the available space. Locking the toolbar doesn't help, and getting rid
of the language toolbar doesn't help; it keeps reappearing on reboot.
Appears to be a Redmond annoyance that's not high enough priority to fix.

it isn't a clock problem, it's a toolbar problem, the slider to resiz
the quick launch toolbar has become locked.
Kelly's answer is at:
http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm
line #164. I just used it, no longer involves the complex fiddlin
listed earlier, just download the script and run it. Takes seconds. :
