task bar can not work

On my XP-Pro system my task bar no longer work anymore. I can activate the software do thedestop. when I reinstal the system its no helpfu

Does anynone know how I can get my task bar to wrok

I have a related problem. Today afternoon when I turned my laptop with XP pro on, it displayed a message like "recovered registry file from disk click ok to continue", after which I have not been able to use my laptop. When I turn it on it prompts for id/password upon supplying which, it plays the windows boot tune and the just sits there (not hung though as I can do cntrl+alt+del and see taskmanager) with no task bar, no start menu no system tray nothing.....any ideas?
