Can you assign tasks and use them through outlook without being connected to
a server? i can send tasks but no-one seems to be able to open the tasks they
receive. there is a message saying it cannot open this type of attachement.
we dont have a server, only a network through a router. this is posing
difficulties as i need to assign these tasks to certain people. please help
if there is a solution...

Yes. The step you're probably missing is that you need to have the
recipient's address marked for rich-text format. Doulbe-click the underlined
email address to do this.

I have now tried that option but still nothing works. i still get the message
cannot open this type of attachment. with the now added not sending the task
because of permissions!! any ideas?

What type of attachment are you seeing? What is the permissions error?

Hi,

my permissions error reads as follows:

"the message could not be sent because one of the recipients was rejected by
the server. Server response '550 Recipient Not Authorised [ recipient
rejected due to no authorised destination groups]'. (Account:'my pop3
server', SMTP Server:'smtp.my smtp server', Error Number 0x800ccc79).

Next is the message that is received when trying to open a task to another
person:

Outlook cannot do this action on this type of attachment.

basically, i can send a task and everybody except 1 person can receive them.
when they receive a task, they can right click and all task options are there
but get this message when they try to open it.

thanks for your help :)

Hi,

i was wondering if anyone has any ideas yet? the microsoft help files and
website are not very helpful. i do have a little progress though. all of the
computers on the network have now been set to send mail in rich text format.
1 computer on the network can open, accept the task. i can then open it on my
pc. i can send and receive task to my personal pc at home from my work pc.
however even though we are ALL on xp, 2 pc's cannot open the tasks. i can
read the tasks from them but they cannot open tasks from me???? is there a
setting that i need to change to enable this? please, can someone help me?

regs,

N.S.

The default mail format doesn't matter. It's the format for each individual
recipient address that needs to be set for RTF.

Provide exact symptoms for the problem machines.
