Taking hours

for messages that I am sending to reach their destination. I sent myself a
test message to see how long it would take to receive it and I got it 12
hours later. This is happening to other people that I am sending messages
to. What can I do to correct this as this is very frustrating. I have no
problem receiving mail from anyone else.

I can assure you that your Windows Mail program is not causing that delay.
In order to discover where the delay is occurring, look at the headers of one
of those delayed messages. To see all the headers, press Ctrl-F3.
The 'Received' headers are time stamps inserted by each of the mail servers
that have handled the message. If you need help interpreting the time stamps,
post the full headers of one of those delayed messages.

Thanks for the reply.

This is happening no matter who I send messages to. But the weird part is
if I go directly on the yahoo web based mail and send something they get it
asap.

Again, thanks for helping. :)

Some of the other messages I've seen suggest that Yahoo's SMTP
server is rather slow. You may want to find another email provider
with faster servers; you could always check if your internet provider
offers this.

The 'Received' headers are time stamps inserted by each of the mail

that have handled the message. If you need help interpreting the time

post the full headers of one of those delayed messages.

The first thing I noticed from your headers is that you have a Symantec
(Norton) security program scanning your emails. Not only will that delay
emails, it can cause severe corruption of Windows Mail. Even Symantec
admits that email scanning is redundant and unnecessary:
http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPOR...88256c7500723cf0?OpenDocument&src=bar_sch_nam

As a minimum, you should disable all email scanning in your antivirus program.
Now for the detailed analysis. Notice the time when Windows Mail sent the message:
Date: Mon, 18 Feb 2008 07:40:38 -0500

Using that as our base of reference, scan upwards in the headers for the first
(oldest) 'Received' line:
Received: from unknown (HELO GonzalezFamily) ([email protected] with login) by smtp102.plus.mail.re1.yahoo.com with
SMTP; 18 Feb 2008 12:41:19 -0000

Converting the -0000 to the -0500 (EST time zone), we get a time stamp of
18 Feb 2008 07:41:19 -0500. So far so good.

The next time stamp (12:41:20 -0000) is also good.

The next one (18 Feb 2008 15:54:08 -0800) converts to an EST time of 18:54:08,
which amounts to a delay of more than 11 hours! We have found the culprit.
The delay happened within the Yahoo mail system.
Not much you can do about that except complain to your provider,
and/or switch to a different SMTP server (like Gmail).
