MPV's answer started with "Once you get a table set up...". My problem is I
can't get a table started up. On previous versions of Word I had no trouble
setting up tables from scratch but in the latest version the programme tries
to do it for you and just makes things harder. How do I stop the programme
from defaulting the column/cell widths every time I try to make them the size
I want?

It's hard to follow-through with a question if you change the subject,
rather than entering replies in a brand new subject. I'll try again...

I'm not aware of a way to change the defaults the way you can with other
formatting. So, the best you can do is to set one up and then save it as a
"shell" for next time.

Insert a table, then immediately select it, right-click and choose Table
Properties. From there, you have complete control.

Once it's set up as you like, select it (again if necessary), and in the
Insert ribbon, drop down the Quick Parts tool and choose Save Selection to
Quick Part Gallery.

Next time you need a table, drop down the Quick Parts list and insert your
starter-table rather than starting from scratch.

I didn't change the subject. Perhaps someone else knows what I'm talking
about. I'm using Table Properties and it doesn't give you complete control.
It doesn't matter how many times I change the column/cell widths, they keep
defaulting to another size. It wastes so much time. Thanks anyway.....
