Tables changing width

In Word 2003, my tables are changing size and running off the page (right hand side). I can't get to the right margin to bring them back in. I can see the side in web view, but can't change them. Can't see it in any other view. This is happening consistently with one or other tables in a group of 10 that I'm working on. I manage to cut one problem one, resize it and paste back in and then another one goes crazy! help!!

Hi P. Did you try clicking on Table, Table Properties, clicking on the Table tab, clicking in the Preferred width checkbox under Size, and then placing a numeric value corresponding to the width that you'd like your table to be?

Hi, petunia. Select a table (click somewhere in the table, then click on Table | Select | Table), then click on Table | Table Properties | Table tab | Options | uncheck the "Automatically resize to fit contents" box. To make all columns visible again, click on Table | Table Properties | Column tab | Preferred width: 1" (or a measurement of your choice) | OK. Then resize each column to the desired width by dragging the vertical borders. Repeat for each table you're having problems with.

An alternative to setting the column width is to set the table width to
100%, which will be your margin width. The columns will be resized
proportionally, and you can then resize them manually as needed.
