Table of Figures Entry Not Recognized

When I place a figure title into a text box and then create a Table of Figures, Word 2000 doesn't include the title into the Table of Figures. Example: "Figure 1-1. This is Figure 1-1." is placed into a text box and Style "Figure" is applied to the text. However, the "Figure" text is not placed into the Table of Figures. There is no problem if the text box is removed. Anyone know a work around

There's no work around. A text box is in Word's so-called "Drawing Layer".
And a Table of Figures (or Table of Contents) can't recognize text in the
Drawing Layer. To get your captions into the Table of Figures, you'll have
to copy them from the text boxes, paste them as ordinary text, and then
delete the text boxes.
