I HATE Word!

Now that that's off my chest, here's my dilemma. I create TOC all the time
from the heading styles, which are outline numbered. My headings are always
in TNR (like the rest of the document), and I sometimes create the TOC in
Arial. No problem. ALL of my headings appear in the TOC just fine, EXCEPT 4
my 2nd-level heading! Well, the HEADING appears just fine, except the font
for the NUMBER appears in TNR, when the REST of the text is in Arial. Mind
you, my 1st-, 3rd- and 4th-level headings don't have this problem--they all
show up in Arial as they should in the TOC. Any ideas on what the issue is
on my 2nd-level dilemma? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

TOCs will pick up any direct font formatting that has been applied to
headings. Check to make sure that no specific font formatting has been
applied to the numbering of Heading 4 (Format | Style | Modify | Format |
Numbering). Even though this is technically part of the style, since it is
applied on top of the Default Paragraph Font, it will probably be
interpreted as direct formatting.

Hi Suzanne,

Well, that's just it ... all my heading styles/numbering are the same. My
default para. font is TNR, as is the rest of the document. The TOC picks up
all the heading characteristics except the numbering for Heading 2. I'm just
trying to figure out why Word's 'singling' out Heading 2's numbering as
opposed to Headings 1, 4-9.

Did you go to Format | Bullets and Numbering for Heading 2 and check to make
sure that no font formatting had been applied to the numbering?
