The TOC in my document looks like this:

I. Purpose and Need...............................I-1

and is working fine. I wondered if there was a way to
have it look like this:

I. Purpose and Need...............................1-1

I cannot find a way in customizing my headings to make the
Chapter numbers on the right come out as regular numbers
and still keep the Roman Numerals. I'm using Office XP.
Thanks so much.

Hi Sue

There's one inviolate rule of tables of contents: they report the numbers that appear on the pages themselves. So if the pages in
your document are numbered I-1, I-2, II-1, II-2, then that's how the ToC will look.

More details on page numbering of this kind are at:

I want to include the chapter number with the page number in the Header - how can I do this?

Hope this helps.

With the exception that I mentioned, namely, that if the page number that
appears is produced with { = { PAGE } + 2 } or the like, the TOC will pick
up just the { PAGE } field, not the calculated number.
