I have created several documents which must all be joined together,
but headings are in text boxes. Can a Table of Contents still be
created using the headings contained in the Text Boxes?

I am using Word 2003.

Many thanks if any one can assist. client is urgently awaiting
answer.

No, in versions up to and including Word 2003 headings in text boxes
will not be recognized by the TOC. But you can convert the text boxes to
frames. There is a button for the purpose on the Text Box tab of Format
| Text Box.

Beginning in Word 2007, however, Heading styles in text boxes DO show in
the TOC--even text boxes that are not formatted as in line with text. I
suspect that converting to frames is a more economical solution, though.

This is good news for Word 2007 users, of course, but it should be noted
that the change is not backward compatible, and judging from the number of
questions we're getting about opening Word 2007 files in earlier versions...
