Hi,

can word hide text fragments in the table of content which are visible in a
title in the document itself? I hope you understand what I mean, so there is
for example a reference number in a title of a chapter but I want this
reference to be hidden in the table of content, is this possible??

thanks a lot!!

A heading style is set on the paragraph level. However, if you inser
the reference as a footnote reference (usually a superscripted number
this will not show in the TOC (unless you assigned it to a TOC level).
I didnt test this at length but with some fiddling you may be able t
arrive at the formatting you want. Does this help?
